ART
Achieving Results Together (ART) was established in 1986 in Long Beach, California. ART offers unique arts programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In addition to a broad arts curriculum, ART offers Transition Student and Older Adult programs as well as a volunteer program, in house and community performance, exhibits, and work opportunities through micro-enterprise venture the GO! Store.
Go! Store is a place for students to build and develop vocational as well as social skills. Students who participate by working in and running the Go! Store will learn key concepts to working in a small business. Students have the opportunity to engage with their community directly both in house in the actual store as well as out in the community buying supplies, networking and in sales, which helps students build vocational skills and promotes purposeful community integration.
The Transition Student program assists young people with intellectual disabilities and their families during the exciting and promising time between high school and adulthood. Career exploration, volunteer opportunities, social skills, and access to community resources allow students the opportunity to develop into healthy and productive adults in an environment of social and emotional support, where autonomy is encouraged and supported.
The Older Adults program is geared toward the unique needs of men and women who are 55 and older, providing education and activities for maintaining physical health, cognitive abilities, memory, and emotional well-being. Older adults receive education and assistance dealing with age and disability-related cognitive and emotional changes, quality of life concerns, and overall physical and emotional health while emphasizing the continued enjoyment of full and productive lives. Our older adults enjoy their role as active contributors in their community by sharing life learned skills while acquiring knowledge to transition into a new phase of life.
